Movie Review: Sherlock Holmes

Well I just came back from watching this movie. It was pretty good. I’ve never read any of the Sherlock Holmes books that I can recall. I do recall seeing other Sherlock Holmes movies on TV though. I think I might have read one book. I’m familiar with them, so I think I’ve read some books when I was younger.
This version was stellar. Robert Downey Jr. as Sherlock Holmes was amazing. He played the role convincingly well. And Jude Law as Dr. Watson was amazing as well. The chemistry between them was awesome. They worked very well with each other. I imagine there will be a sequel. The special effects were great. The action was pumped up. Holmes’ and Watson’s deductive reasoning skills were top-notch. It was a really good film and it was PG-13.
But my memory of Sherlock Holmes wasn’t one of a teetotaler or drug user. That was new to me. Also I didn’t recall him as a fighter. But this one is.
You can rent it on DVD if you’d like, but I think you’d enjoy it more on the big screen.
I give the movie 4 out of 5 stars.

I loved this movie. As a Londoner I really apreciated how Guy Richie (the director) brought Victorian London to life in all it’s gritty style and romance. But with a distinctly modern air to it.
It’s tough to take on the great Sherlock Holmes and not risk ruining it, as the past stories and films were fantastic. But the way he created this new edgy Holmes with all his quirky mannerisms, worked perfectly. Ten out of ten, can’t wait for the sequel!
I absolutely agree with you. Guy Ritchie did an amazing job. I like his version of Sherlock Holmes too. And how he portrayed Victorian England with a modern flair was superb. I definitely will watch the sequel.
Same with you guys. I am very excited for the sequel of this movie. This one’s really worth watching.

Yah, I’m sure the sequel will be amazing
I think the bare knuckle boxing is more of a Guy Ritchie touch rather than a genuine Sherlock Holmes trait. If you think of Snatch, he had the illegal boxing game as a major theme.
I’m a bit undecided about whether the slo mo explaining how he was going to do something worked. Why not just play the scene once rather than repeating it but I guess you do get an insight into how the character thinks.
The chemistry between the 2 main characters was good and I liked some of the humor. On the whole it was stylish and had the Guy Ritchie look to it.

Yah, it was most definitely a Guy Ritchie film. And I think he did an amazing job. I look forward to the sequel
