I watched this show since it’s beginning. It started in 2008 in the UK. It was a huge success. It’s now being broadcast to many countries around the world, including the United States. Season 1 for the US aired on NBC on June 21st. There were 13 episodes. I watched them all. The second season of Merlin started in the UK this past Saturday, September 19th. It was amazing.

I just love this show. It’s based on the King Arthurian legends and Camelot. But it’s more like a prequel, before Arthur becomes King. I read in wikipedia that this was the UK’s answer to the TV show “Smallville” which depicts Superman when he’s a teenager.

Merlin is played by Colin Morgan, originally from Ireland. Prince Arthur is played by Bradley James, a Brit. Angel Coulby plays Gueneveire, also a Brit. Morgana is played by Katie McGrath from Ireland. Anthony Head plays King Uther, Arthur’s father, also a Brit. He was also on Buffy the Vampire Slayer for seven years. Richard Wilson, a Brit, plays Gaius. John Hurt, a Brit, plays the voice of the Great Dragon. That’s basically the main cast.

They played around with the Arthurian legends. In this show Merlin and Arthur are basically the same age and Merlin is his manservant. Gweneviere is Morgana’s maidservant. Very strange, eh? But it works and it’s great. There’s a lot of magic and mythical creatures. It’s supposed to be a family show and racially diverse show too.

I can’t bear to miss a single episode. I think this show has so much potential and I hope it’s around for many seasons. I like watching how they mature and grow into the legends they’ll become. And the storylines for each show are just tremendous. The acting for these younger actors are great. They’re virtual unknowns but they are doing so well.

I highly recommend this show. You’ll enjoy the chemistry between the characters. You’ll see magic. You’ll see battle. You’ll see other characters from the legends appear. It’s a very fun show to watch.

So look out for it in your country. You can try looking for season 1 episodes online. I know there’s a DVD out for it already, but check to make sure the DVD format is for your region.

You won’t be disappointed. I’m a major fan.
