Betta Fish – “Siamese Fighting Fish”

I found out about these at Cat’s site: http://www.plastic-creep.net
She has a bunch of them. They’re so beautiful. And they seemed so familiar.
When I remembered that my mother had two of them. And they both looked like this one:

At first I didn’t know the betta fish was the same as the siamese fighting fish. Just another name for it. Until I researched betta fish online. That’s when the connection came. And I realized I had two in my possession at one point.
The first one lived for a month. The second one died after a week. They were kept in really small bowl-like tanks. I think that’s why they died. It was very small.
They’re very hyper. Aggressive. Like to dart around a lot.
Unfortunately for them they didn’t have a lot of room to move around. I’ll get some more one day, but in a bigger tank.
Here’s a good site that explains them more in detail and has some useful information on the breeding and caring for them:

There are a lot of different websites that claim a lot of different things about Betta fish- so you want to be careful.
You’re right about the bowl size- they should be kept in a minimum of one gallon, but a preferred three or more. Also, temperature and water conditions are very important.
I hope that you do get more Betta fish, they’re lovely. Just know that a larger tank will not keep two males from killing each other. If you have more than one fish, you need more than one tank.
Hi. I like the way you write. Will you post some more articles?
You must the Siamese Fighting fish in separate tanks (and not use a divider if you are using one tank). They will fight to the death!

Thanks. I know that they are aggressive with one another. Thank you for stopping by.
Yes, I had them in separate tanks. I know they’re aggressive with one another. Thank you.
Unfortunately Betta Fish aren’t quite as durable as goldfish or a lot of the more common species.
There was so much that I had to learn when our family first got some.
The size of the bowl is only the start – there is a long journey. They aren’t called fighting fish for nothing.
Yah, my betta fish died within a month or so. As a result we didn’t get anymore. If I ever do get another one, I’ll make sure I have a much bigger tank. And of course only one of them. Thanks for your advice and for stopping by
Just wondering if you were posting any additional information?
